Dr. Samuel Bamoueni
On Monday, September 1, a humanitarian flight crashed outside of Bukavu town, in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Among the 17 victims of the crash was Dr. Samuel Bamoueni, a member of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in DRC.
Samuel was a committed and experienced doctor and surgeon in the Republic of Congo when he joined MSF in 2006. He worked with MSF in Kindamba Hospital for two years, then joined the MSF team in Kitchanga, North Kivu, in DRC in June 2008. He was a dedicated and compassionate doctor who fought for the best treatment for his patients. No matter how busy, Samuel always managed to find time for a patient or a friend who needed him. He is perhaps best remembered for his constant smile and his ability to make those around him feel at ease. He leaves behind a wife and four children. Samuel was a much-loved friend and colleague, and his sudden loss has deeply saddened everyone at MSF. He will be greatly missed.
