I live in Villa El Salvador, a barrio in Lima. My husband and I are both HIV-positive. This is my street. The barrio is unsafe by night, men barricade the street to stop cars and assault the drivers. So at 2am I stand outside the door to wait for Luis, my husband. He delivers pizzas with his motorbike downtown and he comes home late every night. I was born in a street close to this one. I lived there with my mum for 33 years. Dad died when I was 10 and mum had to work hard to support the family. She was a cleaner. When I finished studying I became a teacher. I really liked my job, working with children. |
