Children are left behind in the current Ebola outbreak response

October 15, 2026 — Children are paying a devastating price in the Ebola outbreak unfolding in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). They account for a significant share of confirmed Ebola disease cases and are also more likely to die from the disease than adults.

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is facing its largest and fastest-spreading Ebola outbreak ever recorded, with more than 4,000 people reported dead since May. The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak a public health emergency of international concern.
