Join Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) as we participate in the global event, Amal walks across America.

"Washed Ashore," a unique community gathering bringing together artists and activists to reimagine narratives around migration, will take place in South Mission Beach, San Diego, at 6:00pm PT on Saturday, November 4th. MSF is participating in a partnership with The Blindspot Collective, ArtPower at UC San Diego, and The Amal Fund with Choose Love. Guests are invited to arrive any time after 5:00pm PT to join a family-style picnic before the artistic presentation begins. During the event, Dr. Belen Ramirez-Bourdages, a family physician and project coordinator for MSF, will give Little Amal a check-up before she continues her journey into Mexico.

Little Amal, the internationally celebrated 12-foot-tall puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl, will be visiting San Diego from November 3-5 as part of her 6,000-mile journey across the United States this fall. Throughout the two-month trek, which will span more than 35 US cities and towns for 100+ events, some of the country’s most influential cultural institutions and artists will come together to greet Amal and add their unique color to the rich tapestry of America’s story.

Amal began her journey from the Syrian border and carries a message of hope for displaced people everywhere, especially children who have been separated from their families. Her urgent message is simple: “Don’t forget us.” MSF first joined Amal's journey in Toronto earlier this year. Watch the video below to learn how this unique event was put together as her story continues.
